Merthyr Village – less than 100m away from the gorgeous New Farm Park has long been the heart beat of this neighbourhood. A refreshing mix of small family business, this shopping village itself owned by a local family offers a wonderful, relaxed environment. The shops at the village are a differentiated collection of small family business that afford a much needed break from the ubiquitous feeling of large shopping malls.
Yesterday this warm family feeling was well and truly alive as 45 guests celebrated Mother’s Day by indulging in a High Tea hosted by Dello Mano.
Under the shadows of the 35 year old ficus plants, the central piazza area of the village was transformed into a beautiful collage of pink and white. Tables made special with white tablecloths. Each table adorned with relaxed pearl laced jars of Mother’s Day pink and white chrysanthemum which made for a lovely juxtaposition of a relaxed yet celebratory feeling.
Gorgeous brass high tea stands with their stunning pineapple tops were-imported from London by Dello Mano’s co- owner Deb Peralta. The stands personify Dello Mano’s aesthetic of relaxed elegance and their inclusion in the traditional High Tea setting reflects the innovative and daring spirit that propelled the small family business to pioneer the luxury brownie back in 2006.
High tea guests were treated to the brass layers filled with mini handmade artisan cakes and a delicious combination of savouries.
Sweet treats included mini raspberry Passionfruit Tortes, tiny Golden Caramel Gaytime, delicious fluffy buttermilk scones with jam and dollop cream and of course the famous Dello Mano Belgian Chocolate Brownies known for being the brownie that catapulted this previous American sweet on to the Australian food scene well over a decade ago.
Presentation has always been important to Dello Mano. Keeping true to this core value the preparation of each High Tea was personally overseen by Dello Mano’s Head Pastry Chef. Each High Tea stand was arranged to precision perfect and cleared by the ever attentive Chef before being released to the service team for delivery to the guests.
Known too for their care and consideration, the Dello Mano service team almost twinkled with pride as they served the High Tea stands filled with cake and savoury delicacies. Bien Peralta co- owner of Dello Mano was on hand with his usual warm welcome and to introduce each of the High Tea components. Each table received a personal explanation of each miniature treat. “We’re a family business and so it is our great joy to help create a wonderful experience for our guests , especially on the very important celebration of Mother’s Day” said Bien.
The Village’s casual vibe provided a fabulous backdrop for the guests of all ages to sit, linger and enjoy family time on this very special Mother’s Day. According to Bien, guests were highly complimentary though his favourite was the non verbal high fives that he received from two of the children. When he asked if they were happy with the High Tea, the children’s cream and crumbed faces beamed as they reached up and each gave him a celebratory and acknowledging high five!
Family is at the heart of Dello Mano and also Merthyr Village so it was a beautiful space to have hosted families as each of them celebrated Mother’s Day with a beautiful High Tea.

Dello Mano is famous for pioneering the Australia Brownie market. Back in 2006 the owners identified an opportunity in a market swamped with cupcakes and macrons to make special the brownie. A brownie recipe created by Deborah to do just that, resulted in a metamorphosis of the dry cake-like brownie to a Belgian Chocolate filled fudge brownie that was totally unique and so shot the brownie in Australia to stardom. The innovative launch of the Dello Mano brownie was ground breaking and ignited the brownie industry. Dello Mano attracts orders from across the globe including famous celebrities and movie stars. It created a new market segment and in doing so spawned a cottage industry of brownie recipes and makers. Dello Mano is known today as the leader and innovator of the Australian brownie market.
As well as weekend High Teas, Dello Mano offers handmade artisan cakes – birthday cake and celebratory cakes of many types. Birthday cakes and standard size celebration cakes are available at their stores or can be arranged by order with the team at the stores or by ordering cakes online. Specialty wedding cake and other special orders are also happily accepted.
