The Brownie was so excited to take Afternoon Tea at Sketch that we booked ahead from Australia. Sketch is a visual and sensory paradise! Situated at 9 Conduit Street in Mayfair London and housed in quite a lovely old 1700;s building- just off Regent St. The restaurant is owned by Morad Mozuz the same person that started Momo the well known African restaurant although he apparently also had a number of very successful restaurants in Paris.
The reception below is a mix of collage wall, bamboo furniture and very friendly service - just wonderful!
Met by a lovely Australian girl we were enthralled by the artistic surrounds. Here art drives the atmosphere and the wonderful friendly team members were so relaxing that it became even easier to step off the busy London streets and sink into a paradise of colour, flair and creativity. The dining experience is not just the food nor service but the chance to enjoy being somewhere that is fantasy. So great to be amidst the freedom of the artist to create a space of fluidity and not constrained by the trends of current restaurant or cafe design. Very refreshing indeed!
The afternoon tea room was designed by artist Martin Creed. Apparently the rooms will be redesigned every 2 years as part of the long term programme of artist conceived restaurants. An amazing eclectic blend of old, new and mass produced items and furniture the room is such a wonderful and exciting gift to the senses.
The floor consists of 96 different marble variants.
A totally white corridor and stairs provides an irresistible draw to the bathrooms - an experience in themselves!
The bathroom was like walking on a cloud surrounded by eggs. Each egg a cubicle
My favourite room is the function room - it was booked out on the day but the very friendly Frederic kindly let me take a photo.
Book ahead. We were there for the start of their Summer program (mind you we are still looking for Summer:) ) so the first Friday afternoon tea of the season. An amazing experience!
