Paris Chocolate @ 7th

July 01, 2011 2 min read

Dello Mano  finding Rue Bourgogne in the 7th in Paris was well worth the effort for there we found some of  the best chocolate brioche we have tasted.

As it eventuated the Rue Bourgognehas two beautiful shops which are literally only about 50 metres apart.

The first of the two Patisseries was Rollet Pradier (No 6). This Patisseries presents beautifully with all the elegance one would expect of Paris.

A vast array of  flavours  to choose from in this store and everything from family size delicacies to the lovely individual delights!  Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate .

Or  these beautiful little single serve works of art including more chocolate choices.

To complete the Patisserie range the offer also included beautiful, yet rustic fruit tarts (which besides chocolate are a personal favourite). A gorgeous range of Creme patissiere au chantilly ou macedoine de fruits.

Keeping in mind the number of Patisseries and chocolate yet to be explored we made our choice from this extensive range and of course was to be chocolate. Difficult indeed but the Le Marquisseemed to be calling.  This light , delicious pastry consisted of bitter chocolate ganache on top of a meringue hazelnut biscuit and delivered a taste every bit as good as it sounds.

The patisserie is apparently well known for several specialities however worth mentioning is the range of pre filled breads and prepared foods. We purchased a jambon and gruyere cheese baguette which I have to say had to be one of the best we had tasted. We went to the Patisserie  for the chocolate cake (and did indulge!) however the baguette was sensational!  Take away or indulge in the upstairs tea room either way, this amazing store offers everything from chocolate to savoury and as far as we could see was indeed a one stop shop :) !

Walk a little further down the road (slowly after Chocolate Marquis and Baguette which sadly was in that order !) to find Besnier Pere et Fils at No 40 Rue Bourgogne. Without having read about this little store before hand, we probably wouldn't have stopped. Not as glamorous as its neighbour above, however this store is earthy, very authentic and in fact  award winning.

The rustic realness of the store is enhanced by the visible hard working bakers at the side store and also on the level above the shop.

A much smaller offer of chocolate and pastry is on display in this Patisserie  however we uncovered the chocolat brioche, which was amazing.  Chocolate pieces are sprinkled through a very crisp brioche casing. Absolutely wonderful.

If you manage to get to Rue Bourgogne in Paris, the Dello Mano tip is to go on an empty stomach so that you can enjoy everything from the most delicious baguettes through to the wonderful chocolate brioche.
