Looking for gluten free brownies in Brisbane? You’re not alone. Every week, people search for brownies they can enjoy without gluten — for birthdays, gifts, or just a moment of indulgence. At Dello Mano, we’ve been crafting handmade brownies for nearly two decades, and we understand how much joy a good brownie can bring.
What You’re Really Searching For
Many of our customers searching “gluten free brownies Brisbane” aren’t necessarily coeliac or gluten sensitive— they’re looking for a rich, indulgent brownie made without gluten-containing flour ingredients, without compromising on taste or texture.
And that’s exactly what our gluten friendly brownie offers.
What Does “Gluten Friendly” Mean?
Our brownies are:
-
Made with almond meal as the primary base, supported by a small amount of gluten free flour
-
Handmade in isolated trays, with all possible precautions to reduce cross-contact
-
Prepared with care in our regular kitchen, where gluten is present and the same equipment is used to make all of our luxury brownies
We recommend that those with serious gluten allergies or coeliac disease do not consume our products, due to the risk of cross-contamination. Pleasse see our allergen policy on our website.
But for the many people avoiding gluten for lifestyle or non-coeliac or allergy reasons — our brownies have become a beloved favourite.
What Does “Gluten Free” Actually Mean?
We’re often asked why we say "gluten friendly" instead of "gluten free." It’s a great question — and the answer comes down to Australian food law.
In Australia, the term “gluten free” isn’t just a label — it’s a legal standard.
If something is called gluten free, it must meet very strict rules set by Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ). That means:
🥣 No gluten ingredients at all — not even tiny traces of wheat, rye, barley or oats
🧪 No detectable gluten in testing — even a few parts per million is too much
🧼 Made in a totally gluten free kitchen — no shared equipment, no cross-contact, ever
📦 All ingredients must be certified gluten free, even during transport and storage
In other words, a truly gluten free product must be made from start to finish in an environment that is completely free of gluten — from the ingredient sourcing to the cooking and packing.
This is especially important for people with coeliac disease or serious gluten allergies, where even a crumb can cause harm.
A Personal Story: Why We Made Them in the First Place
Back in 2007, we launched what was then Australia’s first gluten free brownie gift box.
Why?
Because gluten free options barely existed — and someone close to us needed something better.
Our aunt was diagnosed with coeliac disease at age 65. Social, vibrant, and always dining with friends, she suddenly found herself excluded. She would bring her own gluten free sandwich to cafés just to be part of the table.
That broke our hearts.
So we developed a celebratory gluten free brownie — something beautiful she could enjoy without feeling left out. Back then, gluten free was barely a category. We weren’t doing it to chase a trend. We were doing it to make a difference. They were called Gluten Free however have since become known as Gluten Friendly because they are not made in a dedicated kitchen.
Labeling changes aside, the spirit of our oriignial intent still lives in our gluten friendly brownie today.
A Brownie That Brings Back Joy
A few weeks ago, a Brisbane dad called us after buying our gluten friendly brownies for his daughter’s birthday. She had long missed out on treats — and finally, she could enjoy something special again.
“She couldn’t believe how good they were,” he told us. “She was just so happy.”
That’s why we still do this.

What to Look for in a Gluten Free or Gluten Friendly Brownie
Not all gluten free or gluten friendly brownies are created equal. Whether you're choosing for yourself or gifting to someone avoiding gluten, here are a few qualities that make all the difference:
1. Real Ingredients
Look for brownies made with natural, high-quality ingredients — especially when flour substitutes are involved. Nut-based flours like almond meal not only avoid gluten but offer richness and moisture that mimic (or exceed) traditional flour-based brownies.
At Dello Mano, we use Belgian chocolate, real butter, almond meal, and a touch of gluten free flour — no fillers, no synthetic gums.
2. Moisture and Texture
Many mass-market gluten free brownies tend to be dry or gritty. A great gluten free brownie should be:
-
Moist and fudgy
-
Slightly chewy at the edge
-
Smooth in texture without graininess
We test each small batch to ensure that unmistakable Dello Mano mouthfeel — a luxury brownie experience, not a compromise.
3. Storage and Freshness
Gluten free products often spoil faster or become crumbly. Our gluten friendly brownies are:
-
Individually wrapped in foil
-
Refrigerated to maintain freshness
-
Ideal for gifts — they travel well and arrive looking perfect
4. Presentation That Reflects Care
Especially when gifting, a brownie should feel like a treat — not just a dietary workaround. Our gluten friendly brownie comes in the same elegant gift box as our classic collection, so there's no compromise on beauty or impact.
It’s not just about removing gluten — it’s about adding care, flavour, and generosity.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are your brownies gluten free?
No — we describe our brownies as gluten friendly. They are made without gluten-containing flour ingredients, but in a kitchen where gluten is present. We do everything we can to minimise cross-contact, but they are not suitable for people with coeliac disease or gluten allergies.
What does “gluten friendly” mean?
“Gluten friendly” refers to food made without gluten ingredients, but not in a 100% gluten free environment. It’s often suitable for those without gluten sensitivity or who avoid gluten for lifestyle reasons — but not for medically diagnosed coeliac conditions or any gluten sensitivity at all..
Are your gluten friendly brownies safe for coeliacs?
No they are not.. Although the brownie is made without gluten flour ingredients, there is a risk of cross-contamination in our kitchen. We recommend that people with coeliac disease or any gluten allergies to choose a product from a certified gluten free kitchen.
What are your gluten friendly brownies made with?
We use almond meal as the base, supported by a small amount of gluten free flour. The recipe includes real Belgian chocolate, butter, and premium ingredients — handmade in small batches.
Do your brownies taste different from your regular ones?
Most people tell us they’re surprised — in the best way. Our gluten friendly brownies have a fudgy, rich texture and are like a variant of our traditional brownies. Many customers say they’re even better.
How do I know if a brownie is truly gluten free?
That’s a great question — and one worth asking any brand that claims to sell gluten free products.
In Australia, a product can only be labelled “gluten free” if it:
-
Contains no detectable gluten
-
Is made in a completely gluten free kitchen
-
Uses only certified gluten free ingredients, stored and transported to avoid cross-contact
If you're unsure, here are a few questions you can ask:
-
Do you produce your brownies in a 100% gluten free facility?
-
Can you provide independent test results showing no detectable gluten?
-
Are your ingredients certified gluten free, including during storage and transport?
If a business can’t confidently answer these questions, it may not meet the Australian standard for a true gluten free claim — even if no gluten is added. That’s why we use the term gluten friendly — and why we’re always honest about our kitchen environment.
Final Note: Is It Right for You?
We don’t use the term “gluten free” at Dello Mano anymore — regulations have changed, and we want to be crystal clear. Our brownies are gluten friendly: made without gluten flour ingredients, but they are not made in a gluten free kitchen.
We always advise checking with your own or your recipient's dietary needs. But for many customers, our gluten friendly brownies are the perfect balance of indulgence and consideration.
