The Correct Name: Dello Mano

The official name is Dello Mano and yes, it’s a little bit of corrupted Italian.

The inspiration came after a trip to Italy with our two young daughters. We attended the Slow Food convention, Salone del Gusto, where we were captivated by the way Italians treat food. Every product was sold with humanity, respect, and reverence for craftsmanship. We came home to Brisbane with a mission: to make food by hand and to celebrate the depth of flavour and texture that only comes from slow, handmade processes.

When it came time to name our new venture, we wanted something that would honour this Italian provenance story. The phrase “della mano” means “of the hand” in Italian, a perfect expression of our handmade philosophy. But with a marketer’s instinct, I gave it a twist. By changing the a to an o, we created Dello Mano, distinctive, memorable, and uniquely ours.

I still remember the exact moment the name struck me. I was sitting alone in my office in a rainforest house in western Brisbane when it arrived like a flash. That same day, I briefed the design of our very first printed gift box. Remarkably, 18 years later, that packaging design remains unchanged, a timeless emblem of our commitment to handmade luxury.

Common Misspellings We See

Because Dello Mano is unique, it’s easy to trip up on the spelling. Some of the most common variations we’ve seen over the years include:

  • Della Mano

  • Delo Mano

  • Delo Mono

  • Dela Mano

Each of these has appeared in emails, gift orders, and of course, Google searches. In fact, when we set up our first website back in 2006, one of the earliest online cake and brownie stores in Australia, we had no idea just how crucial our brand name would become in online search.

The result? Plenty of people typing in the wrong thing but still hoping to find us. Today, Google is clever enough to connect those misspellings back to Dello Mano, but this page exists to reassure you that no matter how you got here, you’ve found the right place.

Why the Name Matters

At first glance, a name might seem like a small detail. But for us, Dello Mano is the heart of our story. Here’s why it matters so much.

Handmade at the Core

The translation “of the hand” is more than a phrase. It represents our commitment to food that is always handmade. Each Luxury Brownie™ is mixed, baked, and wrapped by hand. Every cake is finished with care, not rushed through a production line. The human touch is visible in every product we make, a philosophy we expand on in our Handmade Cakes Brisbane guide.

An Artisanal Approach

We’ve always believed that handmade food deserves the best ingredients. That’s why we source rich Belgian chocolate, creamy butter, nuts roasted in-house, and natural flavours like real vanilla bean and espresso. This is not convenience baking. It’s a celebration of artistry and taste, one that our Cake Delivery Brisbane service brings to doorsteps across the city.

Our Story of Origin

When we launched Dello Mano in 2006, it was from the simplest beginnings, a borrowed commercial kitchen, two small children asleep on camping beds while we baked into the night. Our mission was clear: to build a business that celebrated handmade food as luxury. The name we chose carried that mission from day one. You can read more in our full About Us story.

Distinctive in a Digital World

The marketing twist from della to dello gave us something unique. In the early years, we didn’t realise how much that uniqueness would matter. Today, it helps us stand apart, online and offline, while still keeping the essence of our Italian inspiration alive.

Longevity and Legacy

Eighteen years on, the name Dello Mano has become synonymous with handmade brownies and cakes in Australia. It’s a reminder that great food, like great brands, is built slowly, carefully, and with integrity.
