From the very beginning, Brisbane shaped Dello Mano in quiet but powerful ways. It wasn’t just the place we started; it was the place that made starting feel possible. The size of our original brownie cube? That came from my kids’ school ruler. I still remember standing at the kitchen bench, developing the box while they did their homework across from me. I wanted something that felt deliberate, a shape that looked at home in the corporate world. I looked at their “Marbig” ruler and thought, that’s it. I used that ruler to set the brownie dimensions, and smile now knowing so many brownies since have quietly followed that same measure. I still have those rulers.

The truth is, this journey began with something far more personal: my heart fell in love with the idea of elevating the humble brownie, taking it from the bottom shelf and giving it the recognition it deserved. And while each brought their own flavour, we’ve always held close the quiet satisfaction of knowing this little movement of brownie gifting started in a Brisbane kitchen, with a handmade tray of brownies and a deep belief in what they could mean to someone.

To be honest, we’ve never spent much time watching what others are doing. Like any business, we’ve occasionally created counter-products, but mostly, we’ve stayed focused on our mission. The phrase “brownie heart” has always carried meaning for us. While our original brownie, created using our children’s school ruler — began as a cube, we soon expanded our offerings to reflect different moments and gifting needs. In those early years, we introduced what was then gluten free brownies (we now call gluten friendly), several new flavours to sit alongside our Classic brownie and heart-shaped brownies as a small, stylised gesture, crafted with real chocolate, buttercream, and care. But over time, the idea evolved into something greater than shape.

What we found was that the true essence of our brownies wasn’t form; it was feeling. It’s the moment someone opens a box and pauses. The way their face softens when they see it’s handmade. The sense that something small, wrapped with care, can speak louder than words.
